- Automation upgrade ensures long-term reliability and maximum availability
- New process automation solution enhances performance and product quality
- Fast ramp-up thanks to Primetals Technologies’ unique and risk-free migration capability
Primetals Technologies has received an order from Shougang Cold Rolling Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Shougang Group, to modernize the basic (Level 1) and process (Level 2) automation systems at the pickling line tandem cold mill (PLTCM) in Shunyi, Beijing, China.
The modernization will strengthen the plant’s automation infrastructure and ensure reliable, future‑proof operations. As part of the project, Primetals Technologies will also revamp one of the main PLTCM drives. Completion is scheduled for August 2026.
Improved Product Quality
With modern automation technology, Shougang Shunyi will extend the life of its PLTCM control systems, simplify maintenance, and lower operating costs. Once implemented, the upgraded Level 2 platform will introduce advanced process models and improved data management, allowing for greater control accuracy, more stable processes, and more consistent product quality.
These enhancements will support the production of high‑end cold‑rolled steel for automotive and home appliance applications, further reinforcing Shougang Shunyi’s position in the premium cold‑rolled steel segment.
Minimized Downtime
When migrating automation systems, speed and a risk-free process are essential. The Chart Converter, an advanced software application developed by Primetals Technologies enables a quick return to full production and cost-effective migration. The solution automatically converts legacy software to the new TIA S7-1500 platform with complete functional equivalence.
