Shougang Jingtang has selected Primetals Technologies for an extensive revamp of its 2-strand slab caster No. 2 at a plant in Caofeidian, Hebei Province, China. With this project, Shougang Jingtang aims to improve the quality of its cast slabs for better rolling results. Startup is scheduled for September 2027. Following the contract award for the revamp of Shougang Jingtang's No. 5 ultra-thick slab caster in November 2025, this contract marks another important milestone in the strategic cooperation between Primetals Technologies and Shougang Group.
Improved Center Quality
Shougang Jingtang is a certified supplier to leading automobile producers. The replacement will enable Shougang Jingtang to reliably use the DynaGap Soft Reduction control system from Primetals Technologies to improve center quality. The equipment replacement will also lead to increased casting speeds and productivity.
Stability of Mold-Level Control
The scope also includes the latest LevCon system that reuses the existing stopper mechanics, further optimizing mold-level control with anti-bulging algorithms. It also includes a completely new strand guide with dry-casting capability in the horizontal part for higher final temperature of slabs and the possibility of extending the metallurgical length by adding horizontal segments in the future.
All segments are equipped with EcoStar Spiral rolls which enable strong strand support and dry casting in the horizontal area. New Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems, including DynaPhase, Dynacs 3D, and DynaGap 3D, will help ensure that surface and internal slab quality reaches industry-leading levels.
