Optical Steel and Aluminum Strip Edge Surface Inspection: A Game-Changer for Quality Control

The EdgeMon system is a cutting-edge solution for optical steel and aluminum strip edge surface inspection, ensuring exceptional strip edge quality through automatic, real-time monitoring. Designed for steel pickling, processing lines, and aluminum rolling, EdgeMon addresses critical challenges such as knife condition, knife breakouts, and burr formation, which are essential for high-quality strip trimming. By automating the inspection process, EdgeMon enhances yield, reduces scrap, and minimizes reworking efforts, supporting sustainable process improvements.

EdgeMon revolutionizes edge inspection by providing simultaneous monitoring of both strip edges at full plant speed. The system measures cut-break ratios and burrs, enabling operators to make informed decisions regarding knife changes, knife setup, and coil quality. Unlike manual inspection, which is subjective and time-consuming, EdgeMon offers systematic, continuous, and reliable process improvements. Its advanced software delivers high-quality, continuous images and employs a traffic light system to indicate the overall cut-edge quality. Operators receive real-time information on knife damage, burrs, and cut-break ratios, synchronized with the shear knife circumference for precise monitoring.

The system is versatile, accommodating both steel and aluminum strip production across hot and cold rolling applications, as well as processing and pickling lines. EdgeMon is available in two configurations: EdgeMon Integrated, where sensors are mounted on the shear housing for seamless integration, and EdgeMon Standalone, which uses a dedicated traversing unit for plants where integration is not feasible. Both configurations maintain constant focal lengths to the strip edge, ensuring consistent inspection accuracy regardless of strip width.
