Primetals Technologies has been awarded an order from Lidao New Energy (Anhui) to supply seven Technology Control System (TCS) packages for a new aluminum foil mill project in Wuhe, Bengbu City, Anhui Province, China. The project will support the production of battery aluminum foil, a key material for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and other new energy applications.
The order also marks an important technology milestone, including the introduction of the latest ISV Electric (ISV-E) and ISV Electric Compact (ISV-EC) systems to support high-precision flatness control.
High Precision Flatness Control
As a specialist producer of advanced foil materials, Lidao New Energy understands the importance of product flatness and has selected three proven technologies to enable them to achieve the highest level of flatness control. Primetals Technologies’ Integrated Solenoid Valve (ISV) spray system is a well-established solution, with more than 650 installations worldwide. This strong track record gave Lidao New Energy the confidence to adopt the latest fully electric variants, which have been recently brought to market. The scope of supply also includes ABSM flatness rolls and the associated TCS systems for all seven foil mills. The seven systems will be successively put into operation by 2027.
The ISV solution adopted by Lidao includes the Electric Compact (ISV-EC), a fully electrically operated valve design. Based on the control requirements of the aluminum foil rolling process, the system generates an optimized 3D spray pattern, helping achieve precise flatness control of battery aluminum foil.
Designed and assembled in the UK to high quality and machining tolerances, the ISV spray bars are backed by Primetals Technologies’ full scope of services covering design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and ongoing support, ensuring precise and reliable roll-cooling performance for every mill.
A Foundation of Trust
This latest order further strengthens the long-standing cooperation between Primetals Technologies and Lidao New Energy. In 2022, the producer placed an order for eight TCS packages, Air Bearing ShapeMeters, and the original ISV spray bar systems. In total, Primetals Technologies has supplied technology for two aluminum cold mills and six foil mill projects.
