Efficient Sinter Ignition with Top Burner System
The top burner system for ignition of sinter bed is a revolutionary solution designed by Primetals Technologies to enhance sinter plant operations. An optimized sintering process requires a uniform and efficient ignition of the sinter raw mix within the ignition hood. This system addresses key challenges of the sintering process in the steel industry by ensuring rapid and uniform ignition, reducing fuel consumption, and minimizing CO2 emissions.
The top burner system for igniting the sinter bed, developed by Primetals Technologies, is engineered to enhance the sintering process by ensuring uniform and efficient ignition of the sinter raw mix within the ignition hood. Depending on the speed of the sinter machine, one to three rows of roof burners are mounted within the ignition hood across the width of the sinter strand. This vertical arrangement ensures rapid and uniform ignition of the sinter raw mix.
The system utilizes gaseous fuels, including natural gas, coke oven gas, mixed gas, and blast furnace gas, as energy sources. Compared to conventional side burner systems, the top burner system reduces gaseous fuel consumption, leading to decreased CO2 emissions. Moreover, the recycling of hot air from the sinter cooler further reduces gaseous fuel consumption. Designed to meet required safety standards, the system is available for all variations of sinter machine widths and can be quickly installed in both new and existing sinter plants.
The fully automated top burner system ensures uniform heat distribution within the ignition hood and efficient, homogenous ignition of the sinter raw mix, resulting in low fuel consumption and a reduced return fines rate. An annealing hood can also be installed after the ignition furnace outlet, protecting the freshly ignited sinter surface by distributing hot air from the cooler onto it.
