Enhancing Sinter Plants Efficiency with Waste Gas Recirculation
Primetals Technologies has developed and implemented new technologies that significantly reduce environmental emissions from sinter production to previously unattainable levels. This achievement is made possible through the introduction of the Waste Gas Recirculation (WGR) system for sinter plants. In this system, the off-gas from the sinter machine is mixed with cooler off-air or ambient air and then recirculated to the sinter strand. The Waste Gas Recirculation system by Primetals Technologies can be installed in both existing and greenfield plants.
The Waste Gas Recirculation system for sinter plants is designed with a strong emphasis on minimizing environmental impact. A key environmental benefit of this system is the substantial reduction in off-gas emissions. By recirculating waste gas back into the sintering process, the system reduces the emissions released into the atmosphere by up to 50%. This helps lower greenhouse gas emissions and ensures exceptionally low emissions are released to the atmosphere. The Waste Gas Recirculation system allows for a minimum off-gas amount while maximizing the sintering area, enabling the design of required gas-cleaning facilities for lower gas volumes, which results in reduced investment costs.
Moreover, the fully automated Waste Gas Recirculation system decreases specific solid fuel consumption by up to 10%. This reduction in fuel usage translates to lower operational costs and a smaller carbon footprint, contributing to a more sustainable production process. The system also enhances energy efficiency by capturing and repurposing thermal energy from flammable components of the waste gas, further boosting its environmental benefits. Additionally, the Waste Gas Recirculation system can be upgraded with a gas injection system to reduce solid fuel usage further.
