Advanced Dedusting and Off-Gas Treatment Systems for Electric Arc Furnaces and AOD Converters
Dedusting Systems for Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) and AOD converters are designed to help steel producers manage emissions and comply with strict environmental regulations. These systems provide complete solutions for both primary and secondary off-gas treatment, effectively cooling and cleaning emissions while ensuring reliability.
As the steel industry evolves, the demand for cleaner and more efficient production methods continues to increase. Primetals Technologies meets this demand with advanced solutions that exceed regulatory requirements, enabling producers to reduce their environmental impact while maintaining high operational efficiency.
The primary Dedusting System for Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) handles the primary furnace off-gas. It includes an initial cooling stage with water-cooled ducts, a sliding sleeve for adjusting combustion air, a dropout box, and a water-cooled hot gas line. The second cooling stage can be equipped with a Forced Draft Cooler, Hairpin Cooler, or Quenching Tower. The AOD converter primary dedusting system, on the other hand, typically utilizes a cooling stack for initial cooling. The second cooling stage is then configured in the same optional ways as for the electric arc furnace (EAF).
For secondary dedusting, additional suction points can be integrated to collect fumes from secondary metallurgy processes or material-handling stations. Primary and secondary emissions are then directed to a pulse jet filter and, via ID fans, to the stack for safe release into the environment. The removed dust is transported—either mechanically or pneumatically—to silos. Additionally, specialized packages for reducing dioxins and heavy metals through activated carbon injection can be implemented.
These dedusting systems significantly minimize the environmental footprint of steel production. Modern electric arc furnaces and AOD converter dedusting systems also feature waste heat recovery, repurposing large amounts of available waste heat to generate steam or electricity.
Newly installed systems require a comprehensive noise assessment, followed by the implementation of noise mitigation measures. Primetals Technologies adopts a comprehensive approach to sound emissions, ensuring complete compliance with government regulations.
