Hybrid Steel Plate Cooling Webinar—Boost Savings & Quality

This steel plate cooling webinar offers solutions to the challenges faced by plate producers in improving profit margins in the current market. Using real-life examples from China Steel Corporation, the webinar focuses on the application of hybrid plate cooling solutions that enable significant production cost reductions while expanding the product mix to include more value-added products with minimal capital investment.

Hybrid steel plate cooling solutions involve integrating new MULPIC® (Multi-Purpose Interrupted Cooling) technology for accelerated cooling and direct quenching of steel plates into existing plate cooling systems. While reducing alloy costs using water cooling during steel plate production is a well-established practice, even plate mills / steckel mills with existing accelerated cooling technology can find considerable opportunities to further reduce costs by adopting the latest mechatronic and digital technologies.

Speakers

Andrew Harvey

Head of Process and Commissioning, Primetals Technologies

Andrew has worked for Primetals Technologies for over 30 years. After graduating from Newcastle Upon Tyne University, he began his career in the continuous casting department as a graduate metallurgist. Andrew is currently the Head of the Process and Commissioning Department for the plate and aluminum business based in the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, Andrew has been part of and led numerous project teams that have designed, built, and commissioned machinery for the global steel industry. Currently, he serves as the Technical Sales Lead for MULPIC®, Primetals Technologies’ online cooling machine for mills that produce plate products. In this steel plate cooling webinar, Andrew presents the challenges faced by China Steel Corporation (CSC) at its 4.1m Plate Mill in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He explains how a hybrid plate cooling solution enabled them to produce higher-strength structural steels and wear-resistant plates, broadening their product mix.

Joseph Lee

Head of Metallurgical Services

Joe has been working for Primetals Technologies since graduating from the University of Sheffield with a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 2005. His early career focused on designing processes and managing the commissioning of plate mill lines, including MULPIC® accelerated cooling equipment. Having performed commissioning activities at over 10 different plate mill sites worldwide, Joe has gained extensive experience with the challenges faced by steel plate producers, whether installing new plants or revamping existing installations. He later led the Process and Commissioning Department for steel plate mills before transitioning to a role as General Manager, Long Rolling. Currently, he serves as head of Metallurgical Services in the UK. Joe is enthusiastic and driven to optimize the performance of rolling mill equipment, meet market demands, and address the challenges faced by steel producers. In this steel plate cooling webinar, Joe highlights the benefits of MULPIC® plate cooling technology and how it can be integrated into existing laminar cooling lines to create a hybrid cooling system.
