Primetals Technologies has developed and implemented a ground-breaking portable safety technology known as the Digital Optical Caliper. This system eliminates the dangerous practice of manually determining the product section using wood or traditional calipers. The Digital Optical Caliper can precisely measure a variety of long rolling product sections, thereby identifying potential issues during production and promoting safer work practices.

In August 2023, Primetals Technologies acquired the cutting technology assets from Spanish company TCT Torch-Cutting Technologies and signed key personnel to a long-term service contract in order to expand its competences with inhouse torch-cutting expertise. The acquirement of the TCT assets allows Primetals Technologies to fully integrate torch-cutting technologies into not only the continuous casting segment but also into the wider range of automation solutions for casting and a comprehensive scope of metallurgical services.

London, August 14, 2023

In May 2023, Primetals Technologies received an order from Baowu Aluminium Technology for an additional finishing mill stand for their aluminum hot rolling mill line in Sanmenxia, located in the Henan province of China. The upgrade will change the layout of the current aluminum hot mill finishing line from a 3-stand to a 4-stand design, allowing the plant to achieve excellent product quality and increase production capacity.

In April 2023, Primetals Technologies received an order from Liberty Galati for a new Multi-Purpose Interrupted Cooling (MULPIC) system and a water treatment plant that will be implemented at its heavy plate mill line in Romania. Sandip Biswas, CEO of Liberty Primary Steel and Mining, says: "This state-of-the-art accelerated cooling installation represents another milestone in Liberty Galati's strategy to expand its portfolio of high value-added products."

In June 2023, Primetals Technologies and digitalization experts Automation Builds Future, ABF, signed a partnership agreement focused on inventory management solutions for the metals industry. The newly formed partnership aims to design automated solutions for inventory management.
