London, October 30, 2023

On September 26, German steel producer thyssenkrupp Steel produced the first coil on its new 2-stand reversing cold mill, supplied by Primetals Technologies. A centerpiece in the steel giant’s future plans, the mill was inaugurated on October 30 during a festive event at the Bochum, Germany, plant. It is the world’s first 2-stand reversing cold mill featuring leading silicon steel technology Hyper UCM.

China Steel Corporation (CSC) has signed a contract with Primetals Technologies for a pickling line and tandem cold mill upgrade at its plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Startup is scheduled for September 2025.

In February 2023, Primetals Technologies received the final acceptance certificate (FAC) from the Hämeenlinna steelworks, a part of steel producer SSAB, for a comprehensive upgrade of the main drives for millstand No. 1 at the 4-stand tandem cold rolling mill in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The upgrade secures the supply of spare parts for the millstand drives and increases the availability of the tandem cold rolling mill.

In September, Chinese steel producer Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Steel (VAMA) produced the first coil at its Phase 2 upgraded pickling line and tandem cold mill (PLTCM) in Loudi, Hunan province, China. The PLTCM will, thanks to the upgrade, handle an increased production capacity coming from an additional, recently implemented processing line.

Steel producer ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) recently ordered a coupled Pickling Line and Tandem Cold Mill (PLTCM) from Primetals Technologies for its site in Hazira, Gujarat in the western part of India.
