London, March 24, 2020

In December 2019, a continuous pickling line (CPL) supplied by Primetals Technologies started up at Chinese steel producer Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Shougang Jingtang). The pickling line is designed to process around 1.5 million metric tons of hot rolled strip per year. It is part of the second phase of a new production plant in Caofeidian, Hebei Province. It is designed to process ultra-high strength steel (UHSS) grades for high added value products to be used in automotive, bus, truck production, and for all heavy industrial applications.

In 2019, two LiquiRob systems from Primetals Technologies commenced operation at the Meishan plant of Chinese steel producer Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. (Baosteel). Commissioning only took four to five days. Additionally, an order was placed to supply a LiquiRob system for Baosteel´s Zhanjiang plant. This raises the total number of LiquiRobs operating in Baosteel plants to five.

At the production facility of India steel maker Rourkela Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a hot strip mill with an annual production capacity of three million metric tons, processed the first coil on January 31, 2020. The hot strip mill was supplied by Primetals Technologies and produces high quality steel for the automotive industry and API grades. It is equipped with pair cross technology to ensure optimum control of profile and flatness. The first coil was produced within two days of the start of hot trials.

Primetals Technologies modernized continuous heat treatment line no. 2 at the Ranshofen plant of the aluminum producer AMAG rolling GmbH and brought it into operation on schedule in August 2019. Primetals Technologies replaced the outmoded open- and closed-loop controls for the strip transport and furnace, switchgear, cables and sensor technology, and also added control containers and hydraulic components.
