Primetals Technologies has received a contract from voestalpine Stahl GmbH, a company of the Steel Division of voestalpine AG, to convert the existing continuous tandem line into a pickling tandem line at voestalpine’s site in Linz. The package includes core components, process machinery, and their integration into the existing plant.

The Hyper UC-mill supplied by Primetals Technologies (Primetals Technologies Ltd.) produced the first coil at Ho Chi Minh steel mill of Maruichi Sun Steel Joint Stock Company (SUNSCO). This is the first Hyper UC-mill in Vietnam, and by adopting the smaller diameter work roll drive with MH Spindle that withstands high load, it can reduce rolling loads while maintaining the high shape control capability of the UC-mill. The purpose of this project is to accommodate the growing demand for thinner cold rolled materials. This new light-duty Hyper UC-mill enables to reduce investment and maintenance costs. SUNSCO will build a stable position in the growing market for thinner cold rolled materials.

Primetals Technologies has received an order from SSAB to modernize the existing Process Automation (Level 2) of the tandem cold rolling mill in Hämeenlinna. The Level 2 solution is state of the art and replaces the existing, obsolete process automation. More precise, coordinated set-points for threading and tailing out reduce off-gauge lengths. The system features ESXi virtualization and is therefore hardware neutral. Simulation on virtual machines enables calculations for new steel grades, thus giving the new solution Industry 4.0 capability. The scope of supply includes configuration, installation supervision, the system test and commissioning. The refurbishment is scheduled to be completed within just a few days during a planned shutdown in November 2021.

Following the recent approval of investment funds, thyssenkrupp is now forging ahead with implementation of the projects under its Strategy 20-30. The greater part of the contracts – revamp of the casting-rolling line, rebuild of an existing continuous caster, both in Duisburg, and construction of a new double reversing mill in Bochum – have now been awarded to Primetals Technologies Ltd., a world leading engineering and plant construction company for the metals industry.

Vietnamese steel producer Maruichi Sun Steel Joint Stock Company (SUNSCO) is in a deal with Primetals Technologies to introduce light-duty Hyper Universal Crown-mill (Hyper UC-mill) at a SUNSCO production site in Binh Duong Province in Vietnam. This mill will be installed as its first application in Vietnam. It is a compact, light duty type of Hyper UC-mill, a RCM, employing smaller diameter work rolls, thus reducing rolling loads. It allows the production of thinner materials of high quality at fewer costs. Also, the mill concept saves investment and maintenance costs.
